Major Airlines Cancel Flights Out of Fear of 5G Expansion

The FAA is cautious and wants to be sure of the dangers of 5G, and the cell carriers want to move forward and deploy their service.

Expanding 5G: AT&T and Verizon are expanding their 5G service nationwide. Today, they turned on the new service in many parts of the country but delayed the activation in problematic areas.

The problem: Many airlines and pilots are worried that the new 5G signal will interfere with planes and different technologies used in flight. The wireless carriers disagreed with the concern but agreed to delay the 5G launch in areas around airports.

Cell carriers vs. FAA: The Federal Aviation Administration claims that there’s not enough information available to allow 5G near airports, citing other countries that limit 5G around airports. The carriers have implied that the FAA is incompetent.

Who’s right? The FAA is cautious and wants to be sure, and the cell carriers want to move forward and deploy their service.

Major international airlines are now canceling and modifying flights into the United States because of uncertainty.
